The current LMDh prototype debuted at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2023 in the GTP class. Porsche Penske Motorsport campaigns it in the FIA World Endurance Championship from Mannheim and in IMSA from Mooresville, North Carolina. The car arrived after more than 30,000 km of testing across Europe and North America.

At the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche finished second overall — 14.084 seconds short of a twentieth outright win — while taking what Porsche recorded as its 112th class victory at the circuit. In 2026 the overall win went to Ferrari; the Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 of Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor and André Lotterer finished third.

Racing has repeatedly reached the road: the 919 Hybrid programme ran in parallel with production hybrid development, and mechanisms such as Push-to-Pass — a driver-triggered power boost with a fixed duration — now appear on a production SUV.
14 June 1970
Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood won the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright in the Porsche Salzburg 917 KH, start number 23, after 4,607.811 kilometres. Heavy rain turned the race into attrition: of 57 starters, seven were classified at the finish.
It was Porsche's first overall victory at the circuit, and Herrmann's last race as a professional driver.
